introduction

welcome to the applie‑ai playbook, your step‑by‑step guide to landing your first or most important job. the market isn't broken, it just has some cracks that you can crawl through.

creating a resume

learn how to craft a resume that stands out with action verbs, metrics, and tailored sections.

mainly..

that employer is a person. they also don't know you, and dont really want to put effort into reading your resume. so prioritise directness and dont waste time or use stupid layouts. the resume editor has been OPTIMISED to appeal to a tired employer or hiring manager to not waste their time, so dont ask it to create elaborate stories for you.

why should you lie?

because who cares??

on a serious note, with the lack of checks employers will do, putting yourself at a slight edge is necessary. you should not lie about having a fully fledged career, but that random charity work as a sales assistant last year? sure. that online course of work experience you missed? say you did it. being unreasonable will just cause you to be inexperienced and fired on the job, but getting as close to that line without crossing it is necessary. also because you want to avoid any let me talk to your past employer question if its a past career.

now how?

use the resume editor to create a resume that is tailored to the job you are applying for. it will help you structure your resume, suggest action verbs, and ensure you include relevant metrics. sit back and let it create and optimise, making sure you know at least vaguely what is on the resume. you cannot walk into an interview and not know what is on your resume, so make sure you understand the content it generates.

mental preparation

finding a job isn’t a sprint but a marathon: every resume you send, every call you take, every interview you nail (or learn from) is progress. it can take time, but adopting a “you’re only one away” mindset keeps you motivated—because that next application just might be the one that changes everything.

growth mindset

practice positive affirmations, visualize crossing the finish line, and reframe each ‘no’ as a stepping stone toward your goal.

rejection resilience

every rejection is fuel for the next push: take time to reflect on feedback, adjust your approach, and set a concrete micro‑goal before you hit ‘submit’ again. use journaling to track what you learned, celebrate small wins (like improving your pitch), and remind yourself you’re getting closer with each ‘no’—because every setback refines your strategy and brings you one step nearer to the finish line.

finding job posts

discover where and how to find the right opportunities using boards, alerts, and networking.

important

you've heard about the rush in the job market, and of course you want to beat it. the best method is simply to be early. for all the methods below make sure you are within a week of the job posting. no point trying to score in a closed goal.

also dont be stingy and get what you can.

no-indeed

you already know we dont like indeed. horrible search algorithm and applications that get sent to the bin. in all seriousness, you can use indeed but other places are reccomended.

in person

yes, drop the ego. go to that local shopping centre or highstreet shop, any business, and speak to the manager. this undoubltedly works, and works the best out of any method. if the manager is able to see who you are before the interview, the process speeds up by 5x. Whether you have your appLie-ai resume on paper or on your phone, the social barrier being broken is an elite way to embed yourself into the company.

job marketplaces or similar

called various names, these niche sites that offer specific jobs to a certain audience are perfect for that first job or that high value position. Nobody would go through the effort to post on obscure site if they didnt't want the perfect candidate. and you can be that perfect candidate. for first jobs or part timers, various sites exist in different specialities such as merlin careers (theme parks), leisurejobs, studentjob or various other plaforms that require only a chatgpt search. For high value permanent jobs, many MANY platforms exist from finance to tech to more, so to not list an infinite number of sites, i'm entrusting you to find them. Trust me, they exist.

company sites

finally, the holy grail, as close to a company as you can get. simply brainstorm a company near that you would like to work at followed by careers, such as [nike retail careers] or [wingstop careers] and I guarantee they will have a distinct careers page. simply hop onto the site, filter by role and locaiton and see what is available. sort by date as well, as you know newer is better. then apply through their process, its like premium priority.

cover letter essentials

cover letters are your personal handshake on paper—they introduce you, showcase your passion, and explain why you’re the perfect fit. they give context your resume can’t: highlighting motivations, storytelling about your journey, and demonstrating your communication skills. sending a tailored cover letter tells employers you’ve done your homework and increases your chances of standing out.

what is a cover letter

a concise introduction that pairs with your resume—setting the stage for your story, explaining why this role excites you, and demonstrating communication skills before an interview even begins.

optimizing for employers

optimize for the employer by mirroring their language and weaving in keywords from the job posting. applie‑ai’s editor analyzes the job description in real‑time, auto‑injecting targeted phrases, adjusting tone, and even scoring your letter for readability and ATS‑friendliness—so you always submit the most compelling, on‑brand cover letter possible.

interviews

nail both live and ai mock interviews by practicing common questions, leveraging real‑time feedback, and applying proven frameworks like the star method. treating every interview as a learning opportunity—and embracing it as a true two‑way conversation—will sharpen your skills and help you build genuine rapport.

star method

structure each answer with situation, task, action, and result to tell a clear, concise story that highlights your impact. by breaking your examples into these four pieces, you make it easy for interviewers to follow your logic, see your process, and understand the real value you delivered.

company values research

dig deep into the company’s mission, vision, and core values and check their website, recent blog posts, leadership interviews, and employee reviews. identify 2–3 values that align most with you, then weave them into your answers: explain how your own principles align, share a brief story that illustrates these values in action, and describe how you’ll carry them forward in the role. demonstrating this alignment shows you’re not just qualified, but truly invested in their culture and long‑term success.

interview conversation

think of the interview itself as a natural dialogue, not a one‑sided test. greet your interviewer warmly, listen actively to their questions, and respond as you would in any professional conversation: pausing, asking clarifying questions, and sharing relevant anecdotes. treat them as human: mirror their tone, show curiosity about their experiences, and offer your own insights. this conversational approach builds trust, makes you more memorable, and often uncovers opportunities to connect on a deeper level.

at work

transition smoothly into your new role with a 30‑day plan, quick wins, and ai‑driven reports.

celebrate wins

read your acceptance email, take a moment to breathe, share the news with friends or family, feel proud of yourself, get excited for day one.

lock in and persevere

remember why you started, stay focused on your goals, push through challenges when they arise, lean on your support network, keep your momentum strong, don’t give up because you’ve already worked so hard.
